History:
“This cemetery is built on the bank of a stream about 25 feet above the stream and is about one-half acre in size, with stones of white and grey marble.

Some people who attend the Presbyterian (now United) Church at Mayfield say that everyone in the cemetery is related! This ‘familyness’ of the Mayfield Presbyterian Church was a byword in the district.

The first man buried in this cemetery was Pat Speirs, a son of old Pat. He and his brother, Adam, took a team of oxen and went away over three concessions east of Brampton to build a log house. They stayed overnight at a settler’s house and in the morning, in spite of the fact that he had a cold, went up into the bush to leave a load of lumber they had. In a few days he was dead of pneumonia. That was in 1836”.

Excerpts from Wm. Perkins Bull notes, Peel Archives, Brampton [PAMA] Jan Speers

The very old gravestones of Mayfield United Cemetery have been cleaned, repaired, and placed in two cairns complemented by beautiful stonework. Each cairn displays 24 gravestones.
