Todd Family Farm Cemetery
Also known as: Rice Estate Cemetery
Location:
Located on private property in the middle of Lot 14 west of Hwy 10 and east of McLaughlin Rd, Brampton, Peel Region, Ontario, Canada.
Concession 1W, lot 14, Toronto Township.
History:
The history of this cemetery is now lost. The present owners know nothing about it, only that there is a story that there are more burials than would be indicated by the two monuments that remain.
The 1840 census indicated:
– Oliver and John Todd were on Lot 14 Concession 1W
– William Todd was on Lot 15 Concession 1W
Tremaine’s Atlas (1859) indicated:
– John Todd was on the E 1/2 and N 1/2 of the W 1/2 of Lot 14 Concession 1W
– William Todd was on Lot 15 Concession 2W
Pope’s Atlas (1877) indicated:
– The Todds were no longer in residence
In From Strachan to Owen, Wm Perkins Bull indicated:
The Todds, elite of the Irish immigrants who followed Carter to Peel in 1819, are buried in a dilapidated little 10′ x 11′ plot on Lot 14 Concession 1W Toronto Twp. The broken but still legible monuments record burials in 1828, 1829, and later.
Transcription purchase:
No transcription has been made available for purchase, because the cemetery had so few stones.
