Extract from information sent in by C. A. Lovell, Clerk, Box 66 Alton Ontario (on letterhead of Municipality of Township of Caledon), Jan. 6, 1932.
Alton cemetery donated by Jas McClellan about 1832. An extra acre was bought from Walter McConnell for this cemetery for the sum of $300.00 in 1927. The plots were sold as family plots, at prices ranging from $5.00 to $20.00. (Note: these are present day charges.) The first interment was made about 1832/33. Cannot find any information as to whom.
It has been roughly estimated by the Cemeterian that there are 600 burials in this cemetery. There are still plots for sale. Old families are still allowed to be interred in the family plot. There is provision for perpetual care. Alton cemetery is owned by the Police Village.
