By a deed dated July 15, 1851, and registered July 6, 1852, these lots became the property of Bethel United Church.

The land for this church and cemetery was donated about the year 1850. John Featherstone donated the northeast half and Thomas Wyse donated the south half.

Both of these men are buried in this cemetery in the respective section which they owned. The first two graves were those of Thomas Featherstone and Jonathan Howes, pioneers of this area who both died in 1851.

The cemetery is currently open for burials.

The first Methodist church, a dual church/school wood frame building, was replaced by another wood frame building in 1848. It was replaced by the second church, a brick building constructed in 1914 and opened in 1915. By 2011, it was Bethel United church in the Hornby Pastoral Charge.
