History:
About ¼ acre of land was donated by Charles Haines in approximately 1847. A further ¼ acre was given as a dower memorial by Charles and Ann Haines in 1863.

The cemetery is surrounded on three sides by a wire fence. There is a gate in the iron fence at the front of the cemetery.

Plots originally sold for $4 and in 1932, the price was raised to $25. The Trustees of the cemetery in 1863 were Charles Haines, Frederick Haines, John McKechnie, Robert Wilkinson, and Archibald McKechnie.

The first burial, in 1846, was Alfred Haines, aged 3 years, the nephew of Charles Haines, the donor of the cemetery. At his burial no clergyman officiated. The minister who was employed to officiate was unable to be present owing to heavy rains. Charles Haines conducted the service.

Perkins Bull:
In his recording in the 1930’s, described the cemetery as very nice looking and well kept with all monuments erect. Lying up amidst a lot of brush and broken stones, there was one nice, rather pretty stone with the following inscription:

Margaret J., daughter of Wm. and Mary Dobson
died Feb. 29, 1868, aged 4 years.
This lovely bud so young, so fair,
Sent home to early doom,
And came to show how sweet a flower
In Paradise, could bloom.

Now, the only thing that shows this death is the remains of her stone in the corner with a heap of rubbish in an otherwise well-kept cemetery. No one will ever know where in this cemetery she is buried.

One of the most respected and esteemed Ministers, Professor John Torrance, at this own request, was laid to rest in the cemetery in 1884. A monument costing $125 was erected in his honour:

Rev. John Torrance
Principal Can Literary Institute Woodstock
Died 1881 aged 42 years.
Erected as a token of esteem by the Cheltenham Baptist Church.
He was for six years, the beloved Pastor.

The cemetery is still active and administered by a Cemetery Board.
