Ferguson Family Farm Cemetery

The cemetery no longer exists and all the graves have been removed to the Brampton Cemetery, Brampton.
History:
The farm on which this cemetery was located has been turned into a subdivision. All of the graves have been removed to the Brampton Cemetery in Brampton.
The farm was occupied by Major Hugh Ferguson who fought in the War of 1812 and settled in Brampton in 1830. Major Ferguson was married and was the father of four daughters and three sons. The Brampton Archives has additional information about the family but no further record of who was buried in the cemetery or which graves were removed to the Brampton
Cemetery.
The Brampton Cemetery Records indicate that on May 15 1975 seven graves were removed from the Ferguson burial grounds which were located on a knoll in the centre of the farm and buried in the cemetery in the Samuel Ferguson plot which is located on Lot 12, Range 17, Block A.
Perkins Bull gives the following description of the cemetery as it once looked:
“The plot is about 25 yards square, tucked away at the back of the farm overlooking the Etobicoke River. Nine of the family lay buried, but there is only one small stone to the memory of the three children of A & C Ferguson: William who died in 1855, Adam Hugh in 1862 and Adam in 1865.
The plot is completely overgrown with fine lilac bushes and when in bloom give a startling spot
of colour to the whole countryside.”
According to Mrs Carol Ferguson Lindsay of Brampton, a descendant of Major Ferguson, the Perkins Bull records which indicate that Adam married Catherine are in error. According to Mrs Lindsay, Adam in fact married Charlotte.
