Also known as: Harrison-Hewgill Cemetery

Location:
Brampton, Peel Region, Ontario, Canada.
Concession 10, lot 9, Toronto Gore Township.

History:
Two tombstones in excellent condition are located beneath an apple tree south of the old Harrison farm house. Only one stone has an inscription. Pieces of tombstones have been found in the area but to date no more information is available.

Ann Hewgill Harrison was the daughter of William Hewgill Sr. who settled in Toronto Gore in 1832 with his wife, Alice Sleightholm and four children. He was the first school teacher and preacher in the area. Ann married Matthew Harrison on May 20, 1849 at St. Patrick’s Wilfield Roman Catholic Church. They lived on their 200 acre farm, Lot 9 Conc. 10 Toronto Gore. Only three of their five children survived: Mary Elizabeth; Ann Jane; and, William. It is said that Ann died in childbirth and the blank tombstone beside hers is identical. Matthew Harrison died 1887, age 65, and the burial is recorded at both Elmbank Cemetery and St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Ann Hewgill Harrison also appears on the plaque at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. No written records as to these burials can be found.

Transcription purchase:
No transcription has been made available for purchase from the OGS website, because the cemetery had so few stones.
