History:
An Ontario Heritage plaque was unveiled on May 5 2006 commemorating the pioneers buried in the cemetery, held by the City of Mississauga. There are over thirty unaccounted-for burials along with the children of Nathan and Mary in the cemetery. The Kindrees settled on the land in the 1800’s. No monuments or foot markers are visible today. The plaque reads as follows:

KINDREE CEMETERY

Kindree Cemetery (c1829) is the resting place of seven (7) children of Nathan & Mary Kindree.

26 Kindrees have origins in Wales. Their travels saw them journey from New Jersey through Niagara and then finally to this rural area now within boundaries of Mississauga formerly of Trafalgar Township.

Thomas Kindree (father of Nathan) came to Upper Canada in 1798 and settled in Thorold Township in the Niagara region. By July 1804, Thomas, his wife and six children had applied for a land grant in Trafalgar Township. Nathan (Nathaniel) Kindree (born 1797 died 1853) was one of eight children who also settled in Trafalgar Township. Nathan, his wife Mary Kindree (born 1805), had a total of 12 children, 5 of which survived and raised their own families in the same area. The other children died between 1829 and 1839 and are buried in this small cemetery.

This cemetery is a testament to the early childhood mortality rate in the early nineteenth century. There are over 30 unaccounted burials in Kindree Cemetery.

This plaque serves as a dedication to the memory of the Kindree children and others who are buried here.
