History:
The cemetery was established by George Wilson, Robert J. Lavery and Dr. A. F. Raynar as the burials had ceased to take place in the cemeteries in the Village of Palgrave. The fear had risen that the remains of the burials had begun to leach into the pond next to the village which was the main source of the villager’s drinking water.
By a Deed dated November 20th, 1925, John Patterson conveyed to Albert F. Raynar, Robert Lavery and George Wilson for the purpose of establishing a cemetery known as Morningside Cemetery, the lands which are in fact now used for the cemetery. The Deed was registered in the Registry Office in Brampton on July 29th, 1927. The cemetery agreement was drawn up by William Irwin, Commissioner and witnessed by his wife Eliza.
Over the years there have been several re-interments in the cemetery from St. Alban’s Anglican Church Cemetery and Palgrave United Church Cemetery as well as from Rennies and Sloanes Presbyterian Churches in Adjala.
