History:
W. Perkins Bull described this family farm cemetery as follows: “A small cemetery in enclosure surrounded
by a wooden fence, situated on East half of Lot 25, Concession 2 Chinguacousy West, is in a somewhat
neglected condition. The monuments are upright with a few exceptions.” Bull recorded Norris family stones
as well as that of Phoebe Lindsay.
Members of the Halton-Peel Branch recorded the cemetery in 1987 and added names not recorded in Bull.
In 1989, the existing stones were collected and placed in a cairn.
The following description of the cemetery is from “Early Churches of Chinguacousy and Toronto Gore
Townships in Peel County (Brampton)”, compiled by Trudy Mann (the Author, 2000).
“This small cemetery is found in the southeast comer of Lot 25 Con 2 West Chinguacousy Township. Today
this is on the west side of McLaughlin Road north of the Old School House Road The family names are
Lindsay, Norris, Stephens, Wiggins and McClelland. It is not known, at this time, if this cemetery was
associated with Lipsett’s Wesleyan Methodist Church, which stood to the south on Lot 24. There is a gate to
the small cemetery where the stones have been gathered into a cairn.”
