History:
A congregation under the name of Page’s, sometimes referred as Ostrander’s or Calder’s, originated in the early 1840’s. In a deed registered on August 6 1845, Aaron Page sold two rods and 20 perches for 21 shillings to the Methodist Episcopal Trustees. The land was part of the north-east half of Lot 7 Concession 6 west of Hurontario Street. The nearest village was to the south-east at Hutton’s Mills, now Huttonville.
Page’s Chapel is mentioned in the May 15 1845 issue of the Christian Advocate. A missionary meeting was held there and it was part of the Methodist Episcopal Circuit. A Methodist Episcopal church is recorded at this location on the 1851 census. It also appears on the 1877 Walker Miles Atlas.
Discussion began before the 1844 Methodist Union to close Page’s and Springbrook Churches. A decision was made to unite the two congregations and to erect a new church at Huttonville. The new Huttonville Methodist Church was ready for services in the summer of 1886. The Huttonville Methodist Church became the Huttonvile United Church in the union of 1925.
Page’s Church building, which stood in the north-east corner of the lot, was eventually sold and dismantled leaving the cemetery to mark the site. Most of the monuments have been gathered into a cairn. The plaque on the cairn states “In memory of the Pioneers, Huttonville, 1961″.
In 1983 the cemetery and records were placed into the care of the City of Brampton.
