History:
This cemetery is located (Lot 20 Con. 1W Caledon Twp.) one line west of Highway #10, one half kilometer south of #20 Sideroad.

Two acres were deeded to the church c1845 by William Willoughby, who was the first person, that we know of, to be buried there in 1853. He died after his arms were torn off in a threshing machine.

St. George’s Church seemed to be under the care of Fletcher at Mono Mills c1851 and closed shortly after. The building was bought by one of the Caledon Clarks, who used it for a farm building.

Perkins Bull noted the condition of the cemetery in 1933 as abandoned and used as grazing land for cattle and horses. At that time fifteen graves were visible with evidence of many unidentified graves and also broken stones. Mr. James Graham Pattullo owned the farms then, buying it from William’s son, John. Mr. and Mrs. Pattullo gave most of the family information on those buried there as well as some general information.

The Emacks (#4) were moved to Orangeville Cemetery and four McKim bodies were also moved, along with the monument, to the Anglican Cemetery, Orangeville. This latter removal was under the direction of Mrs. James Dodds of the Dodds Knitting Co., Orangeville, who had her parents and grandparents moved.

Thankfully today (1983) the cemetery and some stones have survived. The large ones are gathered and put on a cement base, while some older and broken stones are set in a cement cairn. The grounds surrounding the stones seemed to be well looked after.

Some of this history gathered from Perkins Bull’s book “From Strachan to Owen” and his cemetery transcription.
