History:
In the early years, travelling missionaries such as Elliot, Osler and Darling held services in various homes in the area. One popular gathering place was the home of William “English” Wilson on Lot 21 Concession 2. The first home of this congregation was a log church built about 1843. James Wilson provided the logs, and a neighbourhood bee was organized to build it. One report states it was on the Wilson property and another states it was across the road on Lot 20. Wherever it was, on October 28, 1844 the Rev. George S. J. Hill presented 51 candidates for confirmation.

In 1848, a larger frame church was built on Lot 20 on land given by William Mathews and a graveyard was laid out beside it.

In 1901, St James moved into Caledon East and the old roughcast church was torn down. The historic burial ground remains and in 1983 was still cared for by a cemetery board.
