History:
Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery is located on Dundas Street (Highway #5) and overlooks the Sixteen Mile Creek. The cemetery was established in 1958 by Trafalgar Township and then operations were assumed by the Cemetery Board of the Corporation when the Township amalgamated to form the Town of Oakville. At present, the cemetery is operated and maintained by the staff of the Parks and Open Space Department.
Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery comprises approximately 30 acres of land. The various sections include: “Roman Catholic”, “Protestant”, “Anglican” and “Jewish”. Each of these has an infant/child area and a cremated remains area. There are two sections located at the north end of the developed property called “Monument Section A” and “Monument Section B”. There is also a “Whispering Pines Section”, and an “Oak Meadow Section” as well as columbarium structures called “Columbarium A”, “Columbarium C” and “Columbarium Dome”. Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery is designed for flat markers, pillow markers and upright markers.
The Sixteen Mile Creek Valley is a major feature of the cemetery, attracting many families with its beautiful trees and peaceful surroundings. Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery has also become an arboretum with a wide variety of tree species.
