History:
The early travelling missionaries of the Church of England ministered to the Anglicans, holding services in various homes in the district.

In 1827, the Rev. James Magrath was appointed to the Toronto Mission on the Credit and he became first rector of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Erindale, that was dedicated September 23, 1828. Baptisms, marriages and burials are recorded in the church registers of Streetsville people.

The time came when the Anglicans needed a church of their own. So, it was in 1841 Streetsville Parish was founded, comprising both the village of Streetsville, and Hurontario Church situated at Derry West.

The first frame building was on Water Street. Not long after, plans were made for a new church, and in 1843 property was given by the “Commodore” Henry Rutledge for the erection of a new church, the present site of Trinity Church today.

Under the first Rector, Robert McGeorge, a native of Glasgow, the Streetsville parish flourished from which the Rev. McGeorge travelled to hold services in the outlying villages of MILTON, NORVAL, BRAMPTON, DIXIE, DUNDAS STREET, and PORT CREDIT. Also, many families of TRAFALGAR TOWNSHIP, HALTON COUNTY belonged to Trinity Church.

In 1878 a movement arose in the northern section, called CHURCHVILLE, for the erection of a separate church. The new church, called St. John’s, Churchville, was consecrated April 13, 1880, however, on Easter Day, 1890, the church was closed.

Even though there was an Anglican Church in their area, many couples preferred to be married in St. James Anglican Cathedral in Toronto.

Mrs. Hyde, a daughter of Henry Rutledge who gave the original site for the church, gave the adjoining lot to the church on which the Parish Hall was erected in 1931.

Apparently, the cemetery was opened about the same time as the church, for the first interment, as both the tombstone and burial register indicate, was that of Mrs. William Rowe in 1844. The cemetery is still in use.
